Digital artist trainee learning Flash, Photoshop and manga drawing... I must be crazy!
Sorry to hear that. I can imagine how frustrating it must be to find out that a course isnt all you hoped for and have to see it through to the end anyway. Hope you can pick up stuff later on.
I wish they'd taught us more Flash on my course, we only had a brief overview. Would of liked to of been taught more advanced stuff on the programming side, I see myself as more of a designer but its nice to have a bit more flexibility in bringing stuff to life. Also would of liked to of been taught more CSS, only learnt how to style text on the page. I've learnt alot in other areas though so I'm not dissapointed with the course but these things I will have to pick up on my own I think through video tutorials (I might give lynda.com a go) or just practice.
Best of luck.
even uni didn't teach you?! You were taught more css then us (at least by the staff >.>but still... wow... sometimes these courses just seem like a piece of paper now unless you do specialist courses... it's your portfolio that shows what you're really capable of or at least that's what it seems like to me

I was taught more Director programming than Flash really (haven't really used Director in the years since then though). But being taught that was a big help for understanding programming in general since they all use the same principles (such as variables, functions, conditionals, strings, loops, event listeners etc.). More advanced CSS would of been nice but I think back then (about 2 -3 years) it was still mainly for additional font tweaks and perhaps only recently has it come to the forefront as an option for being the primary defining code for the entire layout.
A University course I think is useful more for the guidance. In the first year you get the teaching stuff but in second and of course third year you're more independant. I think the feedback from others is pretty valuable and so on. But you're right in that at the end of the day, your portfolio is the most important thing. A degree (as well as the stuff you pick up from feedbacks and mentoring) is probably a nice way of showing you put the effort into something and stuck it through to the end despite whatever challenges concerning deadlines and so on. But plenty of people out there who didnt go to Uni/college but have an amazing portfolio of work.
Wow, I had had a look at your portfolio website! I had no idea your talent spanned over so many areas! I was just blown away with eveything I clicked on. The choice of music is great also... nothing better than browsing a good flash website with some nice music, makes the experience very tranquil.
Oh! I also read the Profile PDF... you were born only 22 days before me! Hooray for us
Anyway, I really love the name Hybrid Wing... sounds very creative and technical, but signifies beauty and balance as well.

Wow thank you for such nice comments! I'm honoured by your wonderful feedback, thanks I really appreciate the support. I'm glad that was the impression you got.
I've tried to study broadly, so I'd have something to fall back on. I was introducedd to the idea from a young age that sometimes plans don't work out when it comes to your career so I figured I'd cover my bases. And I enjoy aspects within both sides of the coin so its not been a bad experience to develop a range of skills. At Uni I've been studying a mix of the technical (programming, interfaces etc.) and creative visual (design, layout etc.) sides to multimedia so that I could be versatile. I think its nice being able to create something interactive that people can explore, and be able to give varied options in the way that they can interact through programming yet also stimulate them visually.
Theres still areas I need to improve upon but thats the same for everyone really. Like I plan to expand on my web programming skills and experiment more with print-based typography, so much to learn!
I'm glad you found the music pleasant, a relaxing experience was what I was going for due to the minimilaistic/stylised natural setting of the background to the site. I need to find some more free usage music in the same vein. Sadly music is one area I've never found my footing with, although I hope to learn to play keyboard someday (I doubt I'd fit a piano in my house heh) I dont really have a grasp on creating music.
Haha, another Capricorn eh? Yes, go us!
Thanks I'm glad you like the name. Its basically to show I'm a mix of things (as hybrids are) due to the range of things I like to offer, and I find feathers/wings to be very aesthetically beautiful (If I see a unique feather lying around I can't resist collecting it although with all the bird flu scare I've had to hold off on that recently But I have a couple of peacock feathers I collected at a nature park and some other nice feathers I picked up). Aswell as that, on a personal level, I do like hybrids, that being people that are a mix of things like humans with wings/ears or creatures with unusual mixes (originally the logo was going to be some kind of winged fox creature before I settled on something more simplistic), I find it interesting to experiment with that versatility it would add to a species. I like the way you put it too, you have a great way with words. And thats very true too, 'hybrid' is often linked with mechanical mixes too which serves as an interesting contrast to the more organic usage of the word aswell as the word wing.
It sounds like you are opening many doorways and opportunities for yourself in the creative field. It's a good plan, and enables you to have a fundamental understanding of everything so that you will always have the ability to put your foot into any door you choose, and develop you skills within.
I am, however, and Aquarius... but close enough
I think you will do very well... you're an observer as much as you are an artist, by the subtle things you do like collecting feathers, and absorbing nature. I think it is an important balance to have, and you seem to have mastered it.
Hmmm, in terms of music I do quite a bit of composing myself, in various genres but I do some chill out/tranquil pieces too if you are interested in using them seeing as you were looking for them... if you want, they're yours! Just give me a shout.
